I recently interviewed Tracy Abraham, a board-certified holistic health practitioner who happens to specialize in treating Lyme disease. Our conversation focused on the benefits of "grounding" or "earthing" and simple ways to reduce your exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs).
Here are some highlights from Tracy on grounding and EMFs:
"Obviously there's a difference, right, in EMFs. There's the Earth's magnetic field. That's an EMF that's measured at 7.83 hertz. That's obviously extremely beneficial to come in direct contact with it. You've heard of the term probably Earthing or grounding."
When asked why we should ground, Tracy explained:
"It's interesting too that I find in my line of work that when people tell me that they have sleep issues, one of the first things I ask them is where is your phone? It's almost always right next to their bed and so I tell them just move your phone either to the opposite side of the room, preferably outside of your room or at the very least put it on airplane mode. You'd be surprised how much people will get a much deeper, restful night sleep by making that one small change."
Tracy recommends going barefoot outside, using grounding mats and sheets, walking on the beach, hugging trees, and sitting or lying directly on the earth to get grounded. She shared:
"Try and go outside and ground. I even have a sheet that I sleep with that's a grounding sheet. So that way you're kind of going on that."
On reducing EMF exposure, she advised:
"There's harmful EMFs that have that negative impact on our human energy field and on the electrical charge really of each and every one of our cells. That's measured in gigahertz. So that's over 1 billion hertz as compared to the earth's little 7.83 right? So you think of things like Wi-Fi, computer screens, mobile phones, high tension wires, Bluetooth, or I even were putting earbuds in our ears. All of those really bombard ourselves with the negative detrimental energy."
To limit EMF exposure, Tracy suggests small changes like:
- Turning off WiFi at night
- Keeping phones out of the bedroom
- Using wired headphones
Grounding is a simple way to absorb the earth's natural healing energies. Tracy's advice has inspired me to spend more time outdoors barefoot and find ways to reduce EMFs in my home, especially at night. I hope her insights on the benefits of grounding motivate you to give it a try too!
